Supreme Court cases backlog down to 19,102

A total of 836 new cases were instituted during February 02, 2013 to March 08, 2013.

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court disposed of 683 cases against the institution of 836 new cases during March 02, 2013 to March 08, 2013, keeping the total backlog at 19,102 pending cases.

The backlog in the apex court on March 01, 2013 was 18,949 cases. A total of 836 new cases were instituted during February 02, 2013 to March 08, 2013.

The progressive total of pending cases on March 08, 2013 came to 19,785 cases. Out of these, 683 cases were disposed of during the period from March 04, 2013 to March 08, 2013.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry constituted various benches at the principal seat, Islamabad and branch registries to expedite the case hearings and clear the backlog.
