I doubt it very much that what has happened on the burqa ban is part of France’s efforts to keep itself secular.
KARACHI: With reference to Zara Barlas’s article of September 18, I can understand what she is saying and it does make sense. However, considering that French president Nicolas Sarkozy also called for the expulsion of the Roma (gypsies) from the country I doubt it very much that what has happened on the burqa ban is part of France’s efforts to keep itself secular. In fact it quite the opposite and more to do with the bias of people such as the president himself.
