Beefing up the fleet: Railways to add 200 engines, Senate told

Pakistan Railways had 465 engines out of which only 185 were capable of functioning, says Azeem.

ISLAMABAD: Performance of Pakistan Railways will improve within a year as it will soon add around 200 new engines to its fleet. Informing the Senate Standing Committee on Railways, Secretary Railways Arif Azeem said Pakistan Railways had 465 engines out of which only 185 were capable of functioning. He said around 80% trains reach punctually at their respective stations due to steps taken by the current management. Most of the spare parts for the fleet were being manufactured in the country; however, it was not possible to manufacture whole spare parts within the country. On inquiry, the committee was informed that the issue of the shortage of oil with railways had been resolved with Pakistan State Oil.
