KARACHI: The Toyota Prius car, which was used in a kidnapping bid at Dolmen Mall on Saturday, was stolen from Lyari last year.

The missing report of the car was registered at the Kalri police station on August 4, 2012, by a man named Malik Zulfiqar. According to Kalri SHO Chand Khan Niazi, the complainant had told the police that the car is owned by Ashraf, who used to run a showroom in Jamshed Town.

Zulfiqar had parked the car near the New Truck Stand area when it went missing. He approached the police then and filed an entry. However, he only registered a proper FIR No. 77/13 a year later when the Clifton police had impounded the vehicle.

Clifton division SP Nasir Aftab said that the showroom owner will be called to the police station to ascertain why he did not approach the police earlier to register a proper FIR earlier.

My car was stolen a couple of years back, and the Police refused to register a proper FIR for six months. Even after that time, they did so when I found a contact in the police. I've tried to register FIRs for snatched cellphones, and each time the pathetic staff at the Ferozabad Police Station has asked openly for bribe. Some guts they have.
