LAHORE: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) on Monday condemned the twin bombings that shook Karachi.

After the blast on a residential complex in Abbas Town, that claimed 48 lives and injured over 150, many organisations, people and parties condemned the incident.

The HRCP in a press release stated that “the two blasts obviously targeted the citizens because of their belief and sectarian identity."

The rights body lamented that the government has announced no more than the usual measures; offer of compensation for lives lost and property damaged, a day of mourning and for the national flag to fly at half mast.

"None of these actions assuage the pain of those directly affected and of the countless other Pakistanis who feel an acute sense of abandonment.”

The press statement further urged the government ‘to nab the killers to end this butchery’ and termed the security agencies incompetent.

“Sunday’s bombings in Karachi constitute yet another failure of the government and the intelligence agencies to protect the citizens from wanton killings,” press statement of the HRCP.
