SUKKUR: Thousands of people gathered near the Rohri Bypass to watch a horse race that went on for more than three hours Thursday evening.

The race was held between twelve horses that belonged to landlords as well as residents of the area and was organised by the locals for the benefit of the flood survivors in Sukkur.

The race, covering an area of 2.5 kilometres, was won by Ghulam Rasool, who hailed from Ghotki. Spectators said that this had been the first event they had been able to enjoy in over a month and a half.

They added that it was a great way of finding joy in the middle of despair and hoped that such events would continue to take place in the future.
