Ravi wetlands project: ‘Govt to proceed with RRC proposal’

The WWF-Pakistan has promised to providing upto 50 per cent of the operating cost of the wetlands.

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court directed the Punjab government on Friday to proceed with a River Ravi Commission proposal to set up wetlands on 50 acres near Babu Sabu. The commission’s proposal may cost Rs50-70 million, which the government has agreed to provide. The WWF-Pakistan has promised to providing upto 50 per cent of the operating cost of the wetlands. The court also directed the commission to meet a Japan International Cooperation Agency team visiting Pakistan in March and share its proposal with it. The court directed the government to provide alternative land for the wetlands if the JICA team did not agree to provide the proposed land.
