Shahdara school fire: 10 kids, teacher released; 12 under treatment

The condition of two children is still critical due to deep burns, says doctor.

LAHORE:

Twelve of the 22 children who suffered burns in a school fire in Shahdara last Thursday remain under treatment at Mayo Hospital.

Ten children were discharged earlier while their teacher was discharged on Thursday.

Shahdara Town SHO Atif Zulfiqar told The Express Tribune that police had arrested a school supervisor Muhammad Ashraf.

He said two other suspects, admin officer Ammar Hussain and school director Chaudhry Shaukat, were missing. He said police will arrest them soon.

Khawar, a brother of teacher Maryam Murid, told The Express Tribune that his sister’s condition was a lot better and that the doctors had discharged her today.

He said that different people including politicians, members of civil society and the staff/administration of Dar-i-Arqam schools had visited her at the hospital.

He said he had heard that the chief minister would also visit the hospital and give her a certificate for her bravery.

Doctors at the hospital said that the condition of two children was still critical due to deep burns. The condition of other children, however, was stable and they would be discharged in a few days, they said.
