LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday returned a petition filed by a retired subedar of Pakistan Army, saying that the courts cannot be approached against armed forces. The retired subedar had sought benefits similar to the ones retired commissioned officers get. The petitioner Naeem Ahmed had submitted that denying retired subedars the benefits was unconstitutional discrimination. Subedars, he said, do not get plots, a residence allowance or free education for their children. On the contrary, he said, retired commissioned officers are provided with all these benefits.

We are running out of land to give to all these army men. That should be stopped even for commissioned officers, but facilities such as education and healthcare is a basic right and should not be discriminated. The way non commission officers are treated generally in military deployments and facilities, (even in military hospitals) is very sad. All ranks of military deserve same food menu at military posts/units, and same education and health facilities.

Army(along with other departments of the country) still have not shed old colonial mentality.
