A joint team of the Hayatabad police and National Accountability Bureau (NAB) raided the house of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police budget officer Javed Khan and recovered Rs40 million along with automatic rifles and handguns from his residence on Tuesday around midnight.
A NAB official said the accused was already in their custody for a scandal involving the purchase of arms and ammunition worth Rs7 billion.
The weapons were purchased for the K-P police back in 2009. During inquiry, it was revealed that gross violation of procurement rules were committed by the purchase committee in awarding tenders to the contractor, who had no previous experience of supplying such items. Khan had given advance payment for the equipment, which too, was in violation of the law. There were also reports that the arms were accepted in service without proper testing.
