Journalists are targeted with impunity in Pakistan: PTI

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf condemned the murder of Malik Mumtaz, a senior journalist who was shot dead in Miranshah.

LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) condemned Malik Mumtaz’s killing and said that journalists are under threat in Pakistan, according to a press release issued by the party.

A senior journalist and a correspondent with The News International, Mumtaz was killed by unidentified men while he was on his way home in Miranshah village on Wednesday.

The press release said, “Secessionist groups, religious militants and a weak government response have combined to make journalists in Pakistan victims of target killings.”

The party stated that journalists are being targeted with impunity in Pakistan and the government has failed to check this “dangerous trend”.

The PTI further called on the government and concerned authorities to ensure the safety and security of journalists.

“All efforts should be made on priority basis to ensure the safety of media persons in Pakistan.”

PTI chief Imran Khan and other senior members of the political party sent their condolences to Mumtaz’s family.

Well...at least some political party is talking about the plight of journalists in conflict areas
