QUETTA: A complete shutter down strike was observed in Zhob district of Balochistan on Monday to condemn the murder of six labourers hailing from the district who were shot dead by armed men in Shadi Kor, Pasni on Sunday.

The strike call was given by the Bashar Dost Carven. All business centres and markets remained closed in Zhob, while the highway connecting Balochistan with Punjab also remained shut for several hours after protesters blocked it.

Hundreds of protesters, led by leaders of Bashar Dost Carven, including Maulvi Abdul Manan, Hafiz Hazrat Gul and Maulvi Nek Muhammad, took out a protest rally which marched through various roads of the city and culminated in a demonstration at the central chowk, Zhob.

The attack on the six labourers came a month after President Asif Ali Zardari imposed Governor’s Rule in Balochistan to stem ethnic, sectarian and militant violence.
