Busted: Kidnapped child recovered

Shahbaz tried to frame Asghar, a man Shahbaz owed money to, and obtained a SIM card registered under Asghar’s name.

GUJRANWALA: A nine-year old boy kidnapped allegedly by a pir, with the connivance of the child’s mother, on February 20, was recovered on Monday, police said.Police said Arshad’s son was kidnapped from Bismillah Town by Shahbaz, a pir, who would frequent their home. Shahbaz tried to frame Asghar, a man Shahbaz owed money to, and obtained a SIM card registered under Asghar’s name. Shahbaz called Arshad from that SIM and demanded Rs1 million as ransom. Police traced the call to Asghar who led them to Shahbaz. Once police arrested Shahbaz he told them that the boy’s mother had been complicit in the kidnapping. The mother, Yasmeen Farooq, told police that Shahbaz had been blackmailing her for money. She said he had previously raped her three daughters.
