Bloody faceoff: Police constable, three militants slain in Nowshera

Militants hurled a hand grenade at the vehicle and consequently opened fire at the police.

Firefights and a grenade attack in the Akora Khattak area of Nowshera district left a police constable and three militants dead on Saturday.


District Police Officer (DPO) Nowshera Hussain Khan told the media that a police van was patrolling the motorway near Colonel Sher Khan Interchange in the morning when it was attacked by militants.

Khan said that the militants hurled a hand grenade at the vehicle and consequently opened fire at the police personnel, killing a constable identified as Abdul Nasir.

In a reprisal attack, the police killed three suspected militants. “The militants belong to Kurram Agency, however, their names cannot be disclosed,” the police chief said.

Following the incident, heavy contingents of police were rushed to the site and the area was cordoned off. No arrests have been made till now.
