Drafts: National policy for overseas Pakistanis

Draft focuses on maximizing welfare and empowerment of the Pakistani diaspora working in different countries.

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis has drafted the first ever national policy with a focus on maximizing welfare and empowerment of the Pakistani diaspora working in different countries across the globe. 

The draft of the policy was presented for review during a national consultative workshop organized jointly by the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and the International Labour Organization (ILO).

The workshop was chaired by Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Dr Farooq Sattar.

Addressing the workshop, Sattar said this policy has firm roots in people of Pakistan and it recognizes the great contribution of overseas Pakistanis to nation building.

He highlighted a number of schemes for overseas Pakistanis, including the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF), specific housing societies, Pakistan Remittances Initiative (PRI), Foreign Exchange Remittance Card (FERC) and preferential education facilities for siblings.
