KARACHI: With the finalists of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy already confirmed, day four of Super-Eight’s third round was a mere formality that ended without any substance as the matches ended prematurely due to rain.

In pool A, Whites resumed the day on 261 for two and made 325 for five before the weather intervened and the match had to be called off.

Fawad Alam top-scored with 127 with 21 fours while Khalid Latif made a 219-ball 123. Hamza Nadeem took three wickets.

Whites ended bottom of their group with no points and their coach Tauseef Ahmed said that his team had a good start to the tournament but the players were unable to perform in the Super Eight.

“It was my maiden first-class tournament with the Whites which started really well but concluded in a disappointing manner,” Tauseef told The Express Tribune. “The biggest highlight for us was the performances of off-spinner Atif Maqbool. He has impressed me a lot and I hope that selectors will give him an opportunity to show his talent in the international arena after being top bowler with 55 wickets.”

The former player added he was happy that at least one team from Karachi – Blues – is in the final and wished them good luck ahead of their five-day finale against Sialkot at the Gaddafi Stadium from February 24-28.

The Lahore Shalimar-Hyderabad match also ended in a draw as the weather did not permit a full day’s play.

Faisalabad-Bahawalpur in  bottom-placed teams’ final

Meanwhile, Faisalabad and Bahawalpur will vie for the title-less final among the bottom-placed teams after they topped their respective groups at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

The Pakistan Cricket Board had decided to stage this final in order to keep those teams motivated that had not qualified for Super Eight.
