Substandard flour: Samples from 55 mills sent for lab test

The mills are being sold 20,520 sacks of wheat daily and are required to produce 82,000 bags of 18kg flour daily.

The Food Department on Thursday sent samples taken from flour mills for a laboratory test after citizens complained of substandard flour being sold in the market. On the direction of Rahim Yar Khan District Coordination Officer Nabeel Javed, 18 assistant food controllers of the Food Department collected flour samples from 55 mills in four tehsils of the district. On Wednesday, District Food Controller Babar Khan cancelled the wheat quota given to A-One Flour Mills. The mill was accused of not supplying flour in the open market. Khan said that strict action would be taken against mills producing substandard flour. the district food controller said the mills not supplying flour to the market will also be fined under the Food Act. Food Department had increased the quota given to Flour Mills last Thursday to meet the shortfall of flour in the market after several public complaints. The mills are being sold 20,520 sacks of wheat daily and are required to produce 82,000 bags of 18kg flour daily.
