The blasts took place in the crowded Dilsukhnagar area of the city.
The injured were taken to local hospitals, where many were reportedly in critical condition.
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh condemned the attack and said the culprits will be punished.
Singh also announced Rs200,000 [Indian Rupee] compensation for the families of the deceased, Rs50,000 for the injured.
Chief Minister Andhra Pradesh said the federal government will assist in investigations.
“Police are directed to take all necessary action to make sure such an incident does not happen again,” he added.
The state government has also announced compensation worth Rs0.6 million for the relatives of the deceased.
It will also bear the cost of treating the injured. Compensation worth Rs50,000 to Rs100,000 will be awarded to them, depending on the severity of the injuries.

@ Yasir ... its not a small cracker atleast 18 people lost their lives ..
@NItin Gandhi: Actually he wasn't "making fun" of his own rep; it's called sarcasm mate. Look it up.
@observer: They feel left out if they are not given undue attention. Essentially a flippant reaction and self-parody on the dark secrets from their past.
@observer: Because we know very well India's bad nature and playing old blame game's attitude and as usual and always India accuses Pakistan of any mishap occurred in India without evidences and defames Pakistan by the baseless and untrue allegations and accusations of involvements.....
@Yuri Kondratyuk: I was born and brought up in Hyderabad till I left for Saudi Arabia and then landed in the UK. IT hub and Ameerpet? My original home is in Banjara hills, I was there this New year's eve. As far as I am aware Hitech city which is nearer Banjara hills and not Ameerpet is THE IT hub,and some members of my family are IT people. Dilsukhnagar is far, far away. Mr Yuri [if that is your real name], I know what I'm talking about!
@Dr Priyanka:
Cyberabad is a matter of convenience administrative nomenclature. What's called Hyderabad today encompasses of four districts. And also, Dilsukhnagar isn't a IT hub at all it's commercial center. The nearest IT hub of sorts is Ameerpet which is atleast 15km away.
So Madam, please don't make ignorant and insensitive remarks if you don't know what you are talking about.
Oh god , do people care more for taking mobile pics of the bomb-blast site or the people who've died !?!?
I want to break their mobiles , then their hands .
A sad incident indeed.But please do not point fingers towards us now.We are already busy in clearing the mess on our side of the world.
Why dont we all keep quiet till any claim is made by some group or the govt announces their educated guess. Then we can get into a keyboard debate.
Glancing at the comments quickly, came to an idea that majority of the people of both countries (except few ones) have finally come to conclude that blame game won't work. Good development..
Condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and Why to fight about the responsibility about this blast, we all knew that media and government agencies blame either Indian Mujhadeen or Laskar e toiba etc... when they are failed to bring the real culprits simple as that
@Hammad Mian: and why not?
@sabi: India also has muredrerous Muslims known as Indian Mujahidins and they are responsible for this latest atrocity. India also has an incomeptent Home Minister. Another complicating fact is that the Muslims are the ruling Congrss's vote bank and therefore Congress governments of India treat Muslim murderes softly such as they did for kasab keeping him alive and well fed for 4 years and Afzal for 9 years.
Majority of Pakistanis like me are standing besides our Indian brothers and sisters in this hour of sadness.. Extremism and violence knows no religion and no boundaries. I condemn this act of murder in the highest terms! Pakistan goes through this everyday almost right now and we feel your pain India. Uper walla hum sab per rehm karay. Ameen.
Once Militant nexus with Pakistan. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-21534048 Birmingham men guilty of mass bomb plot
After India has been paying criminals and terrorists to do these things in other countries, does it surprise India that their own criminals would cause such havoc in India too?
@naeem khan Manhattan,Ks: Not anywhere close to what nightmares your nation has in all of its areas. None is blaming Pakistan yet.
@Syed:
Shia is pretty much all there is in Hyderabad. And Sir Syed, don't try to be a Mehdi now.
Heart breaking and India will for sure take care of this mess and they will be hanged when caught. These rogues have no religion. Kasab and co killed 45 muslims out of 160 casualities. ...yet sympathy persisted in pakistan and in some muslims. The time to ask whether these kind of muslims have any religion?? It will be impossible to catch those sick minds before crime in a population of 1.1 billion in India. Just impossible. The more we decrease the impact the better. Hope to see less and less of these.Excess religion of any kind is a state of disease that needs to be treated medically.
@Syed: "@Yuri Kondratyuk. Are you out of your mind???? Are you implying that Shia population of Hyderabad is behind this attack? I can’t believe someone would be that naive and dumb to think like that."
You may not be aware of some local events in Hyderabad Syed and why Yuri (who from past posts appears to live in Hyderabad) came to the conclusion he did. In the last week of December, a local MLA called Akbaruddin Owaisi addressed a large crowd wherein he said " If police went away for a day, we 25 crore Muslims could get rid of 100 crore Hindus'. The crowd roared in support. This does not mean all Hyderabadi Muslims support or feel this way but it clearly means some do.
COngress dilly dallied about taking action but due to public pressure sometime around mid January, he was arrested and his supporters said they would take revenge. A lot of people in India think that these bomb blasts could be by Owaisi supporters in Hyderabad since serial blasts is a signature of some Islamic terror groups i India. It is not that there cannot be any Hindu terrorists - of course there can be e.g. Samjhauta express or Dantewada massacres in India but serial bombing is not their modus operandi.
Again while this is not time to trade blame, Yuri's statement did not come from air - there are some local events that have occurred that lead people to believe who the culprits might be.
@Syed: Hyderabadi Shias are very nice people. They are a busy lot, many in very high positions and some of Jung family [they are both shia and sunni] are very influential people. They dont stoop to cheapo tactics. They believe in doing what they can for the country and never ask for anything. Even to suggest that they are responsible, is inviting shame upon oneself!
This is the work of Non Indian Resident.
Good heavens! Muslims again??
I don't think the Indian authorities have blamed anyone yet. Does the truth matter to many of you here?
definitely ISI involved.....
@Yuri Kondratyuk:
"It was a “peaceful” bomb blast"
Like "Smiling Buddha", the first Indian nuclear explosion???
@Rajiv:
"please grow up there is no confirmation who did this, this can be a political issue between states as Hyderabad is converting to a IT hub. I am present here it is not what they are reporting in the news. Muslims, Hindus? no humans died! grow up."
Hyderabad city is the only big Indian city, 4th by population, where Muslim population is over 40% (41.3%, 2001 census), and Hindu population is 54%. It is highly unlikely that Muslim militants would choose this city for bombing over Hindu majority cities in order to take revenge of Afzal Guru, or for whatever other reasons.
As usual Indian intelligence failed to gather evidence for bomb attacks neither It was able to track where the attack would take place.The law and order in our country is pathetic and anyone can do whatever he/she wants.Now after the attack people conveniently blame muslim militants or name the group indirectly pointing their finger on muslim community.The people who died were muslims,hindus,christians along with innocent kids.The culprits who are doing this are not following any religion.This can also be a political move in favor of politicians who want to extract votes as elections are just round the corner
@observer:
Listen Indian! this is your tendency to accuse Pakistan even for that small cracker blasted on Holi Diwali festivals.
I have a feeling that this bombing was carried out to let off the press from its ''Choppergate'' scanldle bashing.
@Asad: Ofcourse, and most probably they are the culprits. I hope India hangs the culprits and their families with a speedy trial. Hope India start a new court system to try these people as enemy combatants..
omg...whole hyderabad is on alert, but what is the use of alerting while the bombs are already blasted very badly killed 15 peoples,
Terrorism has become a fad copied by trendy terrorists of the third world. Even Palestinians', infamous for terrorism and suicide bombings have exhausted themselves and question the fading efficacy of terrorism.
The merchants of death always find new recruits in developing societies where communal tension can be ignited by such callous behavior.
God bless the departed and may God help the injured recover from their injuries.
Very sad to know. Instead of starting blame game Indans shud try to investigate first. We experience bomb blast every day. Instaed of blaming RAW or CIA, our govt and army behave sensibly. We expect the same from indian brethren. May god save india.
it's disgusting to face the trails of terrorists again, the chance taken again fasists to critisise religious aspects and people
@khan: @unknow: @Hammad Mian: @Asad: @Omar: @HRK:
Why are you guys so eager to claim responsibility?
Has any one accused you so far?
@JS: Keep who out? First kick them [politicians] out!
@JS: How wrong you can get, just blame every one else just like the Pakistanis do, the fact is India has problems in Assam and Kashmir, and people get frustrated with the heavy handedness of the security forces and this could be the result, innocent people being killed for no reason or fault of theirs. My heart goes out to the bereaved families and May God rest their soul in peace.It is no time for any one to be gloating over India's problems but we should stop this carnage where ever it is taking place.
@Jayannth: Agree with you. I also feel that this bomb blast has nothing to do with Pakistan.
@Bandgi: agree with you. Dilsukhnagar is part of Cyberabad, not under Hyderabad. Greed leads to acts of terrorism.
Capitalism is responsible of Terrorism in the World. Stop Terrorism.
Time to build the "Great Wall Of India". Keep them out.
The bomb blasts were carried out by cowards, and it doesn't matter if they were green oor saffron, hindu or muslim. They have only one faith -- cowardliness. Whether in Quetta or Lahore or Hyderabad or Mumbai or Srinagar, they are basically yellow cowards. Their religion is cowardice.
@Syed: Rightly said Brother.....We may belong to different nations demarcated by humans, but genetically too we are all the same.. Be it Indians or Pakistanis, we must condemn the act of terrorism and maintain peace and order at this juncture where innocents are targeted for their political and fanatical means.
@NItin Gandhi: Oh please, look after your people. Stop crying about it. Your intelligence failed badly.
You had intelligence 2 days before but still couldn't stop it. Well done.
I think that the bomb blast had not made by pakistanis
D security level shud b high.
@khan: Very sad you are accusing an entity right away by your own means, please do not direct the hatred and disgust at this deed to another but reflect upon it as what it is, inhumane...no religion teaches this...
Loss of innocent lives is tragic no matter where it happens. Hope they can catch the culprits.
Pathetic to see political leaders from Congress and BJP rushing to the crime scene with their supporters. Even media is doing the same thing. The police are unable to control the crowd. The gathering of crowd around the crime scene is destroying critical evidence.
@Stranger: Hyderabad is a peaceful city with Hindus and Muslims living in harmoney since several hundred years. Who did this and why ?
I knew this would happen when Akbaruddin Owaisi gave his famous hate speech and incited muslims to wage war against Hindus....
This was a collective failure by the Indian people who allow hatemongers like these to divide the country
I am sure the government and investigating agencies shall find out who carried out these blasts and their motives. Investigation techniques have improved and it is not all that easy to cover or brush off such incidences by giving a color, be it green or saffron. I am very sure that many arrests would be made and the clues and proof unearthed within the next day or two. Everyone in India is serious in wiping out the remnants of terrorism totally. I am equally sure that the punishment to the terrorists or whoever committed these acts shall be swift and severe. I am also sure some security cameras would have picked up some clues.
condolences to all indians on these deaths. goes to show that terrorism has not geographic borders and that its a common menace. indian society has a lot of issues it must address, or it will continue to be a victim of these acts.
WE SHALL NOT BEND!
Innocent lives lost again :'(
Sincere condolences with all the Indians, this is something that we go through almost every month now in Pakistan
why is that important? please grow up there is no confirmation who did this, this can be a political issue between states as Hyderabad is converting to a IT hub. I am present here it is not what they are reporting in the news. Muslims, Hindus? no humans died! grow up
**@Omar: You are just making FUN of your OWN Actual reputation in the world... but honestly you cannot deny the truth !!!!!!
BJP will now blame pakistan, the same happend when bomb was blasted in makkah masjid also, the same lashkar and all craps... i wonder y BJP is BLAMING MUSLIMS for every blasts...
The irony is that Hyderabadi muslims are Shia predominantly.....the same people who are ruthlessly massacred in Pakistan everyday.
This is mess, India should act very tuff on terrorist attack with no legal proceedings straight death
Very unfortunate!! A case of gross Intelligence failure!!! At time when our neighbor Bangladesh is showing way and overwhelmed the religion oriented groups; we are still living in the period of religious vendetta... Lets hope there is no link with neighboring countries and the fragile peace process is not derailed!! However unfortunate incidents like these are bound to happen till we have inefficient Home Ministers like Mr. Shinde..He is more interested in getting political mileage out of non issues than being really concerned about the security of country..... The terrorists really know where to strike to hurt most...and there could not have been a better target than progressive info-tech city of Hyderabad....unfortunate for the communal harmony in India.
It was a "peaceful" bomb blast, I am sure. And this is the second time Dilsukhnagar area was targeted,
o come on ET, do care quetta and karachi... indians will take care of hyderabad..no need of reporting this story like this
and now indians will blam isi or pakistan without any prrof or anything
The Game move from Pakistan to India :)
Shameless people taking mobile pictures of this scene. Hyderabad is a peaceful city with Hindus and Muslims living in harmoney since several hundred years. Who did this and why ?
Now India will once again blame Pakistan
Extremely sad news. Condolences to the victims and may all be safe.
P.S. a request to Indian media and public - please don't be too fast in pointing fingers at Pakistan; we as Pakistanis share your sorrows.
Now in India too.Where are we heading oh sub.continent.
