Brutality and state apathy

Letter February 20, 2013
bureaucracy and the elected government, they have failed as miserably as the military dictators of the past.

LAHORE: I am ashamed and angry over the insensitivity displayed by our state and law enforcement apparatus towards the repetitive brutal killings of the Hazara Shia coummunity in Balochistan and other peaceful citizens in Karachi. As far as my knowledge of religion is concerned, it is the divine jurisdiction of the Almighty to decide who is good or bad, which will be revealed on the Day of Judgment. Those who take it upon themselves to cut short innocent lives on the basis of their assessments are interfering in the jurisdiction of the Almighty, which is forbidden.

As for the Pakistani state, the bureaucracy and the elected government, they have failed as miserably as the military dictators of the past, in protecting lives and property of all citizens, giving them equal opportunities and justice. It is these failures of the elected executive and employees of the state, which force the superior judiciary to take notice of various issues when constitutional rights of citizens are violated or when the state exchequer is being plundered by the corrupt mafia that is bent on harming the collective welfare of all citizens.
