Imposter: Man claiming to be registrar arrested

Accused later confessed to receiving Rs10,000 and Rs8,000 for securing the release of the two men.

GAKHAR MANDI: A man who tried to get a robbery suspect released by claiming to be the Lahore High Court registrar was arrested on Monday. Police said Ejaz Butt, a resident of Mohallah Shah Suleman, had contacted Gakhar Station House Officer Malik Sameeullah on mobile phone and asked him to release Sarfaraz of Nowshera Road, Gujranwala, who had been arrested for a robbery. Later, he claimed to be Civil Judge Ahsan Shahzad Butt, and ‘ordered’ the SHO to release Vianwali’s Sarfaraz. He said he was sending two people to ensure that the men were released. When he and an accomplice arrived at the police station, the SHO arrested them both. He later confessed to receiving Rs10,000 and Rs8,000 for securing the release of the two men.
