England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket after caving in to long-standing knee injuries.

Flintoff, who retired from Test cricket after last year’s Ashes win, underwent knee surgery. But after failed attempts at returning to action, his latest meeting with his surgeon has led to the retirement decision.

“It’s with disappointment and sadness that I’m announcing my retirement from all forms of cricket,” said Flintoff. “The decision to end my career came after consultation with medical advisers. I will now be taking a break before deciding which future direction to take.”

Flintoff’s career highlight was unquestionably the 2005 Ashes, in which he starred with bat and ball to ensure his side defeated Australia and claimed the urn after an 18-year gap.
