A statement issued by the foreign office stated that John Kerry had called Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar on Thursday.
During the conversation both the sides expressed satisfaction on the progress made in bilateral relations over the past few months.
Khar congratulated Kerry over his appointment and said that she looked forward to working with him and improving the bilateral relations.
Both agreed that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan was in the common interest of the two countries.
Secretary Kerry, while thanking the foreign minister, assured her of stronger coordination and cooperation between the two countries.
