MQM boycotted the session in response to a letter by Sindh Law Minister Ayaz Soomro, which ordered the Prosecutor General of Sindh to dispose of all cases against the Lyari People’s Aman Committee.
After a short meeting with fellow party members, senior MQM leader Dr Sagheer Ahmed said at a press conference, “We condemn the support to such people who have been a part of Lyari gang war.” He further added, “Today PPP showed that they support these terrorist.”
Ahmed said that if President Asif Ali Zardari doesn’t take notice on the issue, “we will boycott”.
According to a source, Ayaz Soomro was called in by President Asif Ali Zardari to the President House. Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan was also present at Bilawal House, where they discussed issues regarding the letter, Soomro said.
During the Sindh Assembly session on the Karachi situation, Sindh IG Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari briefed MPAs on the Taliban’s involvement in Karachi bomb attacks and the killing of MPA Manzar Imaam, when PPP’s Sindh Transport Minister Akhtar Hussain Jadoon started alleging that the Sindh Police was involved in corruption.
Jadoon said that police appointments are based on political associations. He further alleged that the police were taking bribes and collecting extortion money. However, after no satisfactory reply from IG Sindh, Jadoon too walked out of the session, according to a source.
However, Soomro said that the briefing was satisfactory.

@Imran Ahmed (@IAgnikul): Pukhtuns were part of Afghanistan and it was an Afghan who ruled India.
This is the umpteenth time during the past 4.11 years that MQM has left PPP government.. Every time it re-joined the "coalition" government of Sindh due to "reconciliation" policy of Mr Zardari. It's member Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan completes 10 years as Governor Sindh! Although MQM cannot survive without enjoying government yet this time around it will sit on opposition benches to grab the covert position of "Leader of the Opposition" in Sindh Assembly and then make it's say in nominating the caretaker government.
@Iftikhar Khan: Punjabis can live more comfortably in Karachi as compared with KPK, Baluchistan and Rural Sind.
@Khanzada: "Those who came from India" A highly well informed remark?! It may surprise you to learn, Sir, that present day Pakistan, erstwhile West Pakistan was all of it a part of India until 1947. Can you please name any ethnic group of Pakistanis whose ancestors before Partition were not Indians?
Good. Action needs to be taken against gang war and PPP should stop hanky panky-ing.
Doing this after supporting them for 5 years just erodes the credibility of MQM further.
@Mustafa Kamal: Your facts are inaccurate. MQM was out of power between 1992-1997 and 1998-2002. Stop making up stuff: you even seem to be faking your name.
@Khanzada: MQM should accept that Pashtuns, Baloch, Punjabis and Sindhi have a right to live in Karachi. Karachi not only for people who came from India
I have not sympathy towards MQM but your comment is not accurate and is misleading. All the people are living and getting their sustainance in Karachi just like anyone else. Infact during Mustafa Kamal's tenure Pashtuns benefited greatly throught the projects he executed. I must say that it is not reciprocated by other communities, no one can live in their strong hold, no one can even dream of doing business in transport, trucking etc....
MQM has a long history of enjoying the power as coalition partner and ditch the government whenever it realised that the coalition leader can not be re-elected in the forthcoming elections. MQM out of government is like fish out of water. It has another unique record of being in power for over 16 years since 1986.
Election Commission should take notice and ban all those who were benefited through NRO.
"However, Soomro said that the briefing was satisfactory." Somebody please define "satisfactory".
@Imran Nazimabadi:
You don' have to have a beard to be TTP or hired by TTP?? and as one reader above that we should demand even handed justice. Two wrongs doesn't make one right. Look around the world where they have good justice system and thriving societies, even there they could not solve every case but when they do catch someone they do not spare him.
Its like pot calling the kettle black. These NROfied target killers themselves go scot free after killing all witnesses(journalist Wali Baber's killing case) . Those killers that were caught on CCTV footage while killing Jamia Banoria clerics didn't looked Taliban either from any angle.
PAC is a banned terrorist outfit. Its de facto head, an ethnic terrorist, openly claimed responsibility of distributing 300,000+ weapons not to be used at weddings but to kill people. No suo moto taken, instead two wine bottles caught at the airport was a bigger case for PCO.
PAC is responsible for "bhatta", kidnapping and over 5000 murders in Karachi over the last 4 years yet there's no army/rangers operation against them or TTP in Lyari, Sohrab Goth, Al-Asif Square, Orangi Town, Malir, Shershah, etc
If it wasn't for walk-outs, MQM would never get any exercise.
Najam Sethi has already said MQM will leave govt before elections.
MQM should accept that Pashtuns, Baloch, Punjabis and Sindhi have a right to live in Karachi. Karachi not only for people who came from India.
Shame shame!
