LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday sought a response from the government by February 13 regarding a petition challenging a ban on operation of public transport on the Metro Bus route.

Mushtaq Ahmad, a transporter, has challenged the ban.

The petitioner said hundreds of vans, buses and other public transport on the route had been stopped. Commuters and transporters have been facing problems because of this, he said. Many transport businesses and workers had been affected by this, he said.

He said the ban violated fundamental rights guaranteed in the Constitution. He requested the court to allow transporters to continue their business on the Metro Bus route and declare the ban illegal.

Justice Nasir Saeed Sheikh heard the initial arguments and sought a reply from the government.
