LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday directed the petitioners and the Attorney General to argue on the constitutional status of a letter written by President Asif Zardari to the speaker of the National Assembly. The letter directed the speaker to constitute a parliamentary commission on new provinces in the Punjab. Justice Muhammad Khalid Mahmood resumed the hearing on Monday. On behalf of the federal government, Additional Attorney General Abdul Hayee Gilani submitted a copy of the letter. The court will again take up the matter today.  A group of lawyers has challenged the formation of the parliamentary commission and assailed its recommendations. They say Mianwali district in the proposed Bahawalpur Janoobi Punjab province is what the citizens don’t want.
