ISLAMABAD: A three-member bench of Supreme Court led by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry will hear on Monday Dr Tahirul Qadri’s petition seeking dissolution of the Election Commission.

Dr Tahirul Qadri, chief of Minhajul Quran International (MQI), is pleading for the dissolution of Election Commission on the ground that prescribed rules have not been followed by the authorities concerned while appointing provincial election commissioners.

According to some reports, PML-N will also become a party to the petition. PML-N spokesperson Senator Mushahidullah Khan, however, did not confirm the report.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Khan said that he was busy in Lahore with the inaugural ceremony of Metro Bus since morning and had no idea about any such development.

The three-member bench hearing Qadri’s petition comprises Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed. Dr Qadri will present his arguments in person before the court.

Kamran Faisal case

The apex court will also hear the suo motu case pertaining to NAB investigation officer Kamran Faisal, who was found dead under mysterious circumstance last month at his official residence in Islamabad.

The court has sent notices to the heads of concerned departments to present reports on the investigation including NAB chief, chief of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, IG Islamabad, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, and Superintendent Polyclinic.
