Now after over two decades of wait, Sarabjit Singh’s family seems to be losing hope.
In a telephonic conversation with The Express Tribune Sarabjit’s sister Dalbeer Kaur, stated that the family now feared that Guru’s execution will heighten tensions between the countries and Sarabjit might never be allowed to come back to India.
“Both the countries should act wisely and Pakistan should not respond hastily,” she said.
Kaur added that both the governments had released prisoners in the past which should be continued to overcome the trust deficit between the states.
Kaur deemed the execution inhumane, pledging to protest against the Indian government’s decision to hang Guru. “I raised my voice for the release of Dr Khalil Chishti and now I will protest for Guru”.
“If only Guru’s case was thoroughly investigated he would not have been hanged,” she said adding that there were serious discrepancies in the investigations.
She said that in cases such as these the accused are usually given a benefit of doubt but in the case of India and Pakistan, these accused persons are only tried as citizens of an enemy state.
“This is a murder on behalf of the government...He could have been sentenced for life. What message does the government want to send”?
Meanwhile, Sarabjit’s counsel Advocate Awais Sheikh maintained that the Indian government did not hang Guru on the pretext that he was a Pakistani. He added that since Guru was a Kashmiri the right wing parties of Pakistan should not demand Sarabjit to be hanged as a response to Guru’s execution.

@indian: Pakistan has a claim on Kashmir. why India doesn't ask the wish of kashmiri people. Let there be a free and fair referendum. Its like a sore wound. Nothing can be achieved permanently between the two countries unless this problem is solved
Tit-for-Tat !
@roadkashehzada: "indian supreme court admitted that there is no concrete evidence against Guru"
Untrue. You are saying the same thing @SK said and I rebutted. The court actually acquitted Geelani though there were many suspicious things about his conduct because there was suspicion and not proof in that case. The court said that Afzal Guru had been found guilty beyond doubt. Please read my earlier post where I have written exactly what the court said.
indian supreme court admitted that there is no concrete evidence against Guru but sarbajeet's is a convicted terrorist. and why are we confusing guru with sarbjeet. guru didnt cross international border to bomb neighboring country. yes, sarbjeet can be compared with ajmal kasab and shud get same treatment
@Rex Minor: "Let Pakistan declare the elimination of capital punishment from their legal systeml, and follow God almighty’s commandment, “Though shall not kill” . if Europe can do it, any other civilised Nation can do it as well."
This is onetime I can agree with you. I mean I have no specific opinion about what Pakistan should do but I would be happy if capital punishment was removed from Indian penal code. If the punishment exists on the book though for the rarest of rare case, cannot see wo qualifies for it more than someone who wanted to attack the parliament while it was in session.
@Mohib: "I fail to understand why is this Sarabjeet Singh alive till date. Lets do it asap."
He is alive because media is following him. Many Indians die in Pakistani prisons all the time. Killing people is a part of Pakistani culture. Pakis killed 3 million people in East Pakistan and are responsible for a million deaths in Afghanistan. Sunnis are going after Shias and Ahmadis now.
One Sikh was killed in a Paki Jail for washing clothes by Paki prison officials in the last month only. One Sikh was beheaded in Peshawar in the last month, another Sikh is missing
Let Pakistan declare the elimination of capital punishment from their legal systeml, and follow God almighty's commandment, "Though shall not kill" . if Europe can do it, any other civilised Nation can do it as well.

@indian: The murder of an Innocent Kashmiri Person by the Indian Govt to diffuse their internal political tension is a serious matter not only for Pakistan but for all human beings. Its just that simple !!
What has India to do with Sarbjeet the terrorist, killer of 15 innocent peoples! @indian:
what has pakistan to do with guru??? plz tell...
I fail to understand why is this Sarabjeet Singh alive till date. Lets do it asap.
Was He pakistani national?? Lets decide on merit rather in foe of Indian
If Pakistan does a tit for tat hanging, it would be an admission that Afzal Guru was a Pakistani or a Pakistani operative.
*Investigated
India's own court said that there was no evidence against Goru even then he was hanged whereas Sarabjit is a proven offender and MUST be hanged to convey loud and clear message of no tolerence against spying in the name of Amn ki Asha (Tamasha)
If an occurrence in Indian legal system directly changes how Pakistani legal system functions, then it means that Pakistani system is neither independent nor unbiased nor just.
We, Pakistanis, have nothing to do with Guru!
see that headline please. The word INVESTIGATED is missing.
