ISLAMABAD: A family from Ali Town Rawalpindi, who were robbed by the same group of robbers twice, has appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court and the Inspector General Punjab Police for protection against threats by the alleged gang.
The family said that the robbers, who stole 58 tola gold along with other valuables from their house, were threatening them of dire consequences if they did not backtrack from litigation.
Talking to The Express Tribune, Muhammad Adil Iqbal said that on September 24 2011, five armed men barged into his house and made off with 58 tola gold along with other valuables.
“We filed an FIR with the Sadar Police Station and the robbers were arrested along with the looted gold,” he said adding that the robbers were produced in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Basit Haleem Chaudhry.
“And then a prolonged litigation started despite clear proof against them,” he said.
He said that the court released Hussain Ahmad, the main accused in the robbery, on bail. Ahmed was later declared a fugitive by the court.
Adil said that the court asked us to also produce the recovered gold and “on the order of the judge we produced it”.
He said that on way back home in a car, from the court hearing on January 5, six armed men allegedly opened indiscriminate fire on them, injuring his father, Muhammad Iqbal and his brother Ahmer Iqbal in the Ali Town on Adiala Road outside the Adiala Press Club.
Iqbal said that his father and brother both suffered bullet injuries and had to spend one month at a hospital.
The assailants also took away the gold, which we had taken with us to the court, and now they were threatening my family with serious consequences if we refused to patch up, Adil said.
“A local leader and former Nazim of the PML-N, Chaudhry Ilyas, had sent some persons asking my father to resolve the matter out of court,” he added.
According to the family, they have been receiving constant threats ever since.
Chaudhry Ilyas could not be reached to get his version despite several attempts on his cell phone number.
