KARACHI:

Dozens of public- and private-sector companies received shields and certificates at the third Global CEO Excellence Awards 2013 on Saturday for their “excellence in leadership in various aspects and spheres of corporate, private, public and industrial management.”

Award recipients, which included a number of representatives of little known companies, were so many that staff members of the ceremony’s chief guest – Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro – had to repeatedly ask event organisers to bring the award distribution exercise to an immediate end.

Almost all guests received at least one award during the ceremony, which was organised by Global Media Links (GML), an event management company, along with Better Pakistan Forum, a not-for-profit organisation.

According to GML CEO Musaddiq Aziz, the Global CEO Excellence Awards recognised successful government and business sector leaders, whose “visions, directions and actions” have become an inspiration for the upcoming generations. “The awards have been instituted to properly discover and reward leadership excellence demonstrated by distinguished individuals and organisations in Pakistan,” he said.

He claimed that the awards programme was the first of its kind in Pakistan, as nominees were selected through a “professionally handled process and were adjudged according to internationally accepted standards and principles of leadership excellence.”

He claimed that 150 business houses had made initial contacts with the GML for getting firsthand information about the event since the soft launch of the award competition two months ago. Over 75 institutions later ensured their participation in the award by sending nominations of their senior leadership in various innovative categories.
