Quaid Trophy: Wahab steers Shalimar to emphatic win

Fast-bowler’s 12-wicket haul leads team to victory against Ravi.

Wahab Riaz picked up 12 wickets to bowl Lahore Ravi to a resounding 10-wicket win against Lahore Shalimar on day four of their Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Super-Eight clash in pool B.


Shalimar started the day on 144 for four and were bowled out for 255 as Wahab, who snapped up nine wickets in first-innings, and Mohammad Irfan claimed three wickets apiece. Abid Ali played a hand of 63 runs.

Set a target of 87, Imam-ul-Haq made an unbeaten 52 while Imran Butt remain undefeated on 31 to steer their side to victory in 19.5 overs for no loss. Lahore Shalimar became the first team to register an outright win in the first round of Super-Eight and took home the maximum nine points.

Akbar, Sharjeel score centuries

Karachi Blues’ Akbarur Rehman, who had already hit a double ton in this tournament, played an impressive 161-run knock to put his team on course for a win against Hyderabad, who were struggling at 164 for five at the end of day three in Mirpur.

Blues were all out for 329 after resuming the day on 133 for four as Akbar stood out with his 200-ball stay in which he struck 24 boundaries and was supported by Tabish Khan (53).

Hyderabad then produced little fight with Sharjeel Khan’s 80-ball 101 which was laced with three sixes and 15 strikes to the fence but lost too many wickets while chasing a mammoth target of 394.



Rawalpindi take three points

In pool A, the Rawalpindi-Islamabad match ended in a draw courtesy of no play on initial days due to wet conditions at the Pindi Cricket Stadium.

Rawalpindi remained the beneficiary as they ran away with three points for taking a first-innings lead.

As the match came to end, Rawalpindi were 187 for four during their second-innings. Umar Amin top-scored with 63.

Elsewhere, Karachi Whites’ off-spinner Atif Maqbool grabbed a six-wicket haul as Sialkot were bowled out for 254 at the Diamond Ground on day three. Whites then made 137 for four in 42.4 overs before the proceedings were called off.

In the bottom-placed teams, Multan’s Saeed Anwar Jr shone with an unbeaten 100 and a five-wicket haul against Abbottabad to give his team a first-innings lead in a drawn match at the Gohati Stadium.

Multan made 220 for four  in reply to Aboottabad’s 131.  Meanwhile, the Peshawara-Quetta match also ended in a draw.
