Handbags to spruce up your look

Zeyne bags were showcased at Café Forty 4 this week.

Making a debut with his label Zeyne, designers Omair Faizullah and Soniya Warraich feel they have broken the trend of female handbag designers in Pakistan by entering the market. “I come from a family that deals with leather,” Faizullah says, adding that this venture was simply inevitable. The exhibition was held from February 8 to February 10 at Café Forty 4 in Clifton.

“I want to start designing products for men — various accessories and other leather items,” says Faizullah, who has done his Masters from Parsons The New School for Design, New York after graduating from the National College of Arts. “We import our leather from Italy, Germany and Spain — this kind of good quality leather with varying patterns and designs is not available in Pakistan.” He says he was never impressed with the finishing and quality in Pakistan and thus, he always wanted to divulge into the leather market.

The exhibition hosted a variety of stylish handbags to choose from in different shapes and geometrics — clutches, side bags, etc — and were priced from Rs6,500 to Rs15,000. While the prices were steep for a brand that is not yet popular, the designer feels the quality will make it worth the money.

“Our logo has a native feel and design; we have a rich culture – we don’t expand on it enough,” he adds about the brand’s logo.

Among the hottest pieces is an oversized faux ostrich skin ergonomic hexagonal shape clutch, which would make a smashing style statement if paired with a simple outfit. It can tuck under the crook of an arm and rest casually on the hip. Another funky piece is a leopard print patent leather shoulder bag.
