ISLAMABAD:

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Friday hailed the leaders of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) for backing its offer for initiating peace negotiations with the government.

“Any move or step towards peace is acceptable to us,” said the group’s top representative in Punjab Asmat Moavia.

Speaking to the Express News from an undisclosed location, Moavia said Pakistan could be saved from further violence and bloodshed and put on the road to peace.

“The talk offer, however, should not be construed as our weakness,” he warned. “We have made the offer after the increasing international pressure on Pakistan, internal turmoil and in the interest of the country and the people.”

The United States and India, according to Moavia, have permeated in the Pakistani government institutions and have strengthened their influence which is very dangerous for the country.”

Responding to a question, Moavia voiced hope that the peace talks would be fruitful and meaningful given the positive response from JI, JUI-F, as well as Pakistan Muslim League-N chief Nawaz Sharif advising the government to take TTP’s peace talks offer seriously.

The TTP Punjab chief added that his group was aware of Awami National Party’s proposed All-Parties Conference. However, it would only comment on it after its declaration.
