ISLAMABAD: Minhajul Quran International (MQI) chief Tahirul Qadri filed a petition in the Supreme Court on Thursday for the reconstitution of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). Qadri said that he will contest the petition himself.

“I prayed to the court that the composition and constitution of the current Election Commission of Pakistan was unconstitutional. Therefore, it is void according to the law,” Qadri told the media, calling for the court to order the reconstitution of the commission.

Qadri argued that Article 218 of the Constitution defines the composition and constitution of the election commission and stated that the commission should have five members, including one chief election commissioner. “This article categorically states that the appointment of these five members should be done according to Article 213.

“Article 213 states that the prime minister, who is leader of the House, and the leader of opposition should propose three names for every post of election commission and then send the total 15 names to a parliamentary committee,” Qadri detailed.

The parliamentary committee, based on 50 per cent government representatives and 50 per cent opposition representatives should call for a public hearing to debate the 15 names received, Qadri added.

“The committee should call the nominees for each post one by one and then confirm one name for each post after a hearing. But the parliamentary committee members did ‘muk muka’ on names and did not call a hearing for any nominee. They confirmed the names and the president appointed them,” Qadri said.

He claimed that the current ECP has, therefore, no legal status.

I don’t understand why PML-N is opposing the reconstitution of ECP, if it has been constituted illegally.

Where was Tahir ul Qadri sleeping during last 5 years. He is sent by Pervez Musharraf and Establishment to disturb the coming elections. PTI, Q League, MQM and Tahir ul qadri are puppets of Establishment.

Shameless politics of Tahir ul Qadri and PTI. They are seeing their defeat in the coming elections. That is why they are making a noise.

Alliance of PTI, Tahir ul Qadri, Pervez Musharraf, MQM and Q League is being made by Establishment against PML(N). Everyone is afraid of increasing popularity of PML(N). Beneficiary of all this game will be PPP. Shame for these parties who are dancing on the signals of Establishment.

All independent surveys (Gallup, IRI and Economist) surveys are coming in favour of PML(N). That’s why so much noise by Tahir ul Qadri, PTI and Q League because their defeat is certain in the coming elections. Shame for PTI, Tahir ul Qadri and Q League.

Democratic process in Pakistan is in critical danger due to some actors. For example, TahirulQadri, Imran Khan and Ch. Shujaat. Allah save the nation from these actors.

Well may I ask Qadri in what capacity can he approach the Supreme court as he is a foreigner holding Canadian nationality and is not a Pakistani. Can he indulge in such acts.He is a spoiler came here to disrupt the democratic system under the command of his foreign masters. If he is so worried about the well being and clarity of election why does’nt he opt for Pakistani citizenship and fight election on its party platform because he knows his fate he wants to enter the govt through back channels and serve his masters who have donated him sanctuary in the heart of the city in Canada.DOUBLE FACED,UNPREDICTABLE CORRUPT PERSONALITY WITH DUBIOUS NATURE OF EVENTS HAVE CASTED A VERY HEINOUS IMAGE FOR SUCH PERSON. If government and opposition are two parties in this matter then why he says “MUK MUKA”

there is no need to reconstitute ECP… uptill now ECP has taken such steps which were not even expected from other institutions except the SC.. what needs to be done is to make ECP more stronger

Those going on about PML-N popularity need to open their eyes and look around. What has PML-N done in the last 5 years that shows they actually care about the people of Pakistan. Recent handing out of laptops does not replace the years of hardship Pakistani’s had to endure under their government in Punjab.
Whether you like this man or not is not the point….he speaks of change…making the electoral system transparent…what’s wrong with that. Why are Pakistani’s so used to be ruled by looters that they cannot even see a good thing even when it hits them in the face.
As for who sent him and all that stuff…well get your head out of your backside and listen to what he has to say and then pass judgements! Stupid questions like ‘where has he been…’ have been answered by him many times. You Pakistani’s really need a reality check!

And why should the average pakistan be forced to vote people they want…so those who speak on ‘free elections’ here need to redefine what ‘free’ means to them becasue the Paksitan election system has not been ‘free and fair’ for decades!

I dont know why but i have this feeling that most of Anti Qadri and Anti-PTI comments are coming from paid cyber warriors of PML(N). A sane common man can not support Shariffs for the destruction they have caused to Pakistan so far.

Everyone speaking of PML-N’s popularity are referencing a poll, not their actions. A poll by the same people who once reported PTI was more popular and it was praised by PTI supporters.
It’s more about entertainment value. PTI supporters are so despised by no fault of anyone but themselves that people can’t help but rub it in and watch the tantrums.

So ill informed. He is a dual national that means he is a Pakistani too. According to the constitution of Pakistan all dual nationals can take part in any activity of the country other than holding any public office. I hope this will educate Mr.Bond and all others who object to dual nationals taking part in politics of Pakistan. When we as dual nationals send our hard earned foreign exchange to Pakistan why do you accept it; please return it and say no thanks. Please stop bashing the loyalty of us,let me tell you we love Pakistan as much as you all if not more.
