KARACHI: A young man was crushed to death on Sunday by a speeding dumper truck outside a roadside auto repair shop in Dhoraji, within the jurisdiction of the Bahadurabad police station.

The victim’s brothers were also injured in the incident. The dumper truck came to a halt after hitting several pushcarts and then slamming into an electricity pole. The victim was later identified as Imran, 28, son of Khan Mohammad, and his brothers as Asif and Shahid. The injured were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment. Imran used to live in Sherpao Colony and work at a private company.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the speeding dumper truck had apparently lost control and hit the motorcycle Imran and his brothers were travelling on. Authorities had to use a crane to lift the damaged vehicle so that the motorcycle and Imran’s body could be taken out from under it. Witnesses said that the victims had brought their motorcycle to the roadside auto shop for repairs.

The driver and cleaner of the vehicle, however, managed to escape before law enforcers reached the area. When the police got to the site of the accident, they impounded the dumper truck. Imran’s family later staged a demonstration against the incident and dispersed only after the police registered a murder case against the driver of the dumper. SHO Haider Masood said that the law enforcers are searching for the culprit.
