The fire engulfed one of the multi-storied buildings of the army headquarters among a cluster of military properties in the centre of the city.
Express News correspondent Rehan Ali said that Naval personnel had cordoned off the site and that as many as 35 fire tenders of the city, including snorkels, were summoned to the site to help aid fire engines of the Pakistan Navy to put out the blaze.
An ISPR spokesperson said that the blaze had been controlled almost 90 minutes after the fire started thanks to the efforts of fire tenders of the entire city. The official said that the fire was sparked by a possible electric short-circuit, though the cause was yet to be determined by a detailed investigation.
The spokesperson said that there was no damage to life in the incident and that the building that was affected was made mostly of wood and served as a store.
Express News correspondent added that a section of the busy thoroughfare near the site of the fire had been cordoned off by the forces and traffic was diverted away.
The affected building lies in a cluster of military buildings belonging to the Army and the Navy including the southern command of the Pakistan Navy and a head quarters of the army.

Store of what? documents and evidence of some sort?
@Enlightened The generals have more interest in commercial activities than the Defense.
@Shaami: Do not question the bravery and capability of your armed forces as they have impeccable past record of defending the country against India and presently Taliban.
Well Mr Shami its pretty easy to say things and do things, Fires arent that simple. You need to have more knowledge about fires and extinguishers at restaurants,,, if you step out of DHA only then perhaps...
As long as the fire erupted due to the negligence of the staff on duty, it can be investigated and a solution presented. However, if it is a terrorist or insurgency attack, then it is cause for concern and new security measures will have to be taken with re-evaluation of the staff.
Our military is going through a testing time or is it the makings of its own slip-ups? Nevertheless, the citizens will go the extra mile to support the military and assist in the safety and security of the nation.
After all, there are only two institutions that are working, military and the courts. Salams 2013

Reads like a mini Ojhri.
Could be another coverup of military botch up.
Since this is Pakistan, there will be no honest investigation. The report of a farce of an investigation will never see the light of the day.
@Shaami: There is barely water to drink in Karachi and you are talking about fire hydrant?
Another reason Army bases and installation, plus headquarters made in areas such as Cantt needs to be moved out of main cities.
This is how it is in major cities around the world.
But Army does not want to move out of city as they will loose all their luxuries, and will than probably have to WORK!!
The housing schemes are better equipped than the military installations.
If the money spent on staff cars and messes is diverted to disaster prevention and risk management within Pakistan military, it would be in a much better position. I am still waiting to hear who was responsible for selecting the garrison head quarters location in an avalanche/landlside prone area.
I am also pretty sure that somehow no backup of the files will be stored anywhere and somehow all important files will be engulfed in that fire.!!!! How come such sensitive installation dont have any fire hydrants and fire control mechanisms?. Where is the so called professionalism of our Forces ??. In DHA Restaurant we can see fire control mechanism but not in their offices?. Speak tons of volumes for our officers capability to defend this land.
Another sad night for our brave military. Hope no life is lost in this incident.
