BANGALORE: Andrew Symonds continued his prowess with the bat in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he smashed a 24-ball 53 and led Deccan Chargers to a comfortable seven-wicket win over the fancied Rajasthan Royals.

Put into bat, Rajasthan rode on aggressive half-centuries by Jacques Kallis (44-ball 68) and Virat Kohli (35-ball 58) to post a competitive 184 for 4 off their allotted quota.

Ryan Harris, the Australian fast-bowler, and Praveen Ojha picked up a brace each while the rest of the bowlers remained disappointing. With the momentum on their side, Rajasthan started the second innings on a high as they not only contained the Deccan openers but got the first wicket in the third over with only 11 on the board.

However, with Adam Gilchrist at the crease, runs soon started flowing as he shared a 77-run partnership with Tirumalasetti Suman in only eight overs. Gilchrist persished for 32 but Suman found an able partner in Symonds to seal maximum points for the Chargers.
