PESHAWAR: In reaction to the target killings of clerics in Karachi on Thursday, the activists of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (AWSJ) held a protest on Friday. ASWJ leader Maulana Hussain Ahmad Madani led the rally, which was held at Firdous Chowk following Friday prayers. Around 50 people participated in the protest. Addressing the demonstrators, an aggrieved Madani lamented the spike in target killings of clerics. He alleged that some covert forces are trying to drift the country towards anarchy by igniting sectarian conflict. He urged the government to provide security to clerics and traders in Peshawar, adding that the CCPO and deputy commissioner Peshawar will be held responsible if clerics get targeted in the city. At the event, Madani also criticised the government for failing to protect the lives of clerics and common people in the country and for their ‘inefficiency’ in apprehending terrorists involved in such heinous crimes.
