DCO says ban will stay in place till 15% jobs quota for women is filled.

LAHORE:

DCO Noorul Amin Mengal has banned the recruitment of men to city government departments until a 15% jobs quota for women is filled.

The chief minister announced the quota last year as part of the Women’s Economic Empowerment Package.
The quota will also apply to patwaris and the DCO has instructed Additional Commissioner (Revenue) Nadir Chattha to fill patwari vacancies with qualified women.

Chairing a meeting at his office on Thursday, the DCO also said that day-care centres would be set up at government schools under the supervision of the EDO (Education) as part of the package, for the benefit of female teachers.

A committee has been set up to address problems faced by working women, including harassment issues.

The committee is led by District Officer (Coordination) Shahibzadi Waseema Omer
The EDO (Education) told The Express Tribune that the city government would set up 150 day-care centres at high schools and higher secondary schools for girls which had at least five female teachers each. The centres would be for kids aged one to five and an ayah would be hired for each one.

He said that currently, 1,000 city government schools had children’s play rooms, of which 150 would be converted to day-care centres.
