Australia look to oust West Indies in 1st ODI

Paceman McKay confident of hosts putting in a good performance today.

Fresh from a 2-2 draw against Sri Lanka in their One-Day International (ODI) series, Australia will play the West Indies in the same format today in their opening match.

According to Sportal, Australia fast-bowler Clint McKay said he was relishing the prospect of pitting his wits against the formidable West Indies batsmen.

“I’m really looking forward to the challenge,” said McKay. “They are a great side and a really dangerous one in the shorter formats. It is a big challenge for us and something we are looking forward tos.”

McKay will lead a strong Australian pace attack that boasts the likes of Mitchell Johnson and Mitchell Starc.

“They’ve got some very dangerous players and that’s something that us bowlers have got to handle.”

Warner ruled out of first
two ODIs

Explosive opener David Warner has fractured his left thumb and been withdrawn from Australia’s first two ODIs against the West Indies.

Usman Khawaja has been brought into the one-day squad to replace Warner who could still play in the final three ODIs.

“David Warner was struck on the left thumb by Mitchell Johnson in the nets,” said Cricket Australia physiotherapist Kevin Sims. “While the fracture is very minor, it is not worth taking any risks. The injury will keep him out of at least the next two matches against the West Indies.”
