PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday accepted a request of the Ministry of Defence, whose representatives sought 30 days before a decision is taken to compensate victims of aerial bombardment in Tirah valley nearly three years ago.

At least 61 tribesmen were killed and more than 80 others injured when air force jets intending to target militant hideouts mistakenly bombed a civilian-populated area in Seravela, Tirah valley in Khyber Agency on April 10, 2010.

On December 20, 2012 the court said the chief of army staff had confessed the tribesmen had been mistakenly killed and the government was now bound to pay blood money.

During the hearing on Wednesday, Flying Officer Arshan from the defence ministry informed the bench he had received instructions to request the court for a month’s time.

The division bench headed by PHC Chief Justice Dost Muhammad Khan and comprising Justice Khalid Mehmood accepted Arshan’s request and adjourned the case till March 7.
