LAHORE: The Punjab and District Quality Control Board will conduct surprise raids of medicine factories to check the raw material being used and FIRs will be registered against the owners of factories that are found to be using substandard raw material. This was stated by District Coordination Officer (DCO) Noorul Amin Mengal on Tuesday during a meeting with owners of pharmaceutical. The decision has been taken after dozens of people died in Lahore and Gujranwala districts after consuming cough syrups that contained Dextromethorphan. The DCO also warned “non-cooperative firms” of strict action. Mengal also constituted a committee – headed by Advisor to CM for Commerce Mian Muhammad Ali – that will assist and monitor the inspection teams. Other members of the committee are the EDO (Health), and the DO (Health). The DCO instructed that officers concerned provide lists of inspection teams to the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
