ISLAMABAD:

Members of the media from across Pakistan staged a sit-in outside Parliament House on Monday against the government for, what they termed was, its failure to provide protection to journalists and the non-implementation of the 7th Wage Board award.

Journalists covering Parliamentary proceedings also unanimously boycotted Senate proceedings.

The call for the sit-in was issued by the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and a large number of journalists gathered to urge the government to resolve their issues quickly.

Their key demands included providing reasonable security to journalists; implementation of the 7th Wage Board Award, the formation of a new 8th Wage Board Award; the establishment of a victim fund for journalists and the creation of a special fund by federal and provincial government for the families of slain journalists equal to that of the personnel of law enforcement agencies.
