LAHORE: WiMAX Forum President Declan Byrne recently visited Pakistan to meet with regulator and government officials. Wateen Telecom CEO Naeem Zamindar hosted a dinner in honour of Byrne, during which Byrne appreciated Pakistani operators for deploying one of the largest and first WiMAX networks in the world. While speaking on the occasion, he said: “My visit to Pakistan is not only aimed at convincing the government in bringing more transparency in laws and market practices but also to encourage WiMAX investors who are apparently hesitant in putting more capital in their businesses lately.” Pakistan is the first country in the world to have rolled out a nationwide WiMAX network, established by Wateen Telecom. Speaking on the occasion, Zamindar said: “Wateen Telecom is focused on proliferating broadband internet in Pakistan. Being one of the pioneers of technology, Wateen believes WiMAX is the solution of choice for emerging countries and can leapfrog Pakistan to progress.”
