Refund required: Notice issued to university officials

Petitioner says when he sought hostel fee back, he was told to wait.

A consumer court issued a notice to the administration director and accounts officer of the University of South Asia for March 6 in a petition seeking damages of Rs10 million for not returning hostel dues.

Petitioner Muhammad Akram Zahid said his daughter was admitted in the university. He said he spoke with Administration Director Nadeem Farooqi and Accounts Officer Muhammad Awais Iqbal for getting a hostel room allotted for his daughter.

He said that at the time of payment of the fees, including the hostel security of Rs10,000, Iqbal assured him that the security would be refunded if his daughter left the university and the hostel.

Zahid said that when he asked for the money back as his daughter had left the university, he was told to wait till the end of the first semester.

The money, however, was not returned even after the end of the first semester, he said. He said Iqbal and his colleagues threatened him when he asked for the refund.

He prayed the court to direct the respondents to return Rs10,000 and pay Rs10 million as damages for mental torture and embarrassment.

The respondent was not available for comment.
