Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairperson Imran Khan has said Asma Jahangir is not acceptable to his party as the caretaker prime minister because of her views on the Supreme Court and her closeness to the PPP.
Addressing a press conference at the PTI Central Media Office here on Monday, he said the caretaker PM should be impartial, honest and respectful towards the SC. He said the PTI would accept only an impartial caretaker setup and an independent election commission. He stressed the need for banning use of development funds by those in governments for their election campaigns.
Khan said only fair elections would save the country from future crises. He said the people had been facing price hike, electricity and gas shortage, corruption and a poor law and order situation. He said only a strong government could end their sufferings.
He said the Indian election commissioner had ensured a smooth sailing for democracy in India. He said there were some constitutional requirements for the caretaker PM. “We have learnt that the PML-N has proposed Asma Jahangir as caretaker PM. The PTI has reservations about her. Jahangir is close to the PPP. She has issued statements against the PTI and the SC.”
He said if the government tried to appoint Jahangir as caretaker PM, the PTI would protest the decision. He said she did not come up to the requirement of the Constitution for a caretaker PM. He said the PTI had not been consulted in this regard.
About a new province to be created out of Punjab, Khan criticised both the PPP and the PML-N, saying it was a political stunt. He said the two parties remained in power for five years but failed to take the initiative earlier. He said protests were being staged in Mianwali and Bahawalpur against the proposed contours of the proposed South Punjab province.
Responding to a question about a recent survey by the IRI, which showed PTI to be losing ground, he said it was not a credible survey. He also asked why the IRI management had not named the most popular political leader of Pakistan.
He said the PTI would not join PML-N demonstration in Islamabad. He said the PTI would not boycott general elections.
About talks with Jamaat-i-Islami chief Munawar Hassan, Khan said the PTI respected him and negotiations with him would continue for the betterment of the country.
To a question about rumoured divisions in the PTI, he said: “I am happy that party workers are participating in elections for their leadership. He said the party rejected the dynastic politics.”
He again demanded that President Zardari resign. He said fair elections would not be possible if he continued to hold the office. He said he was also the chairperson of a party contesting the polls.
He said the long march by Dr Tahirul Qadri had achieved two things – a month for scrutiny of candidates and an assurance that all parties will be consulted on appointment of caretaker governments. He said robust scrutiny would oust about 60 per cent of the incumbents from the election.
Khan was accompanied by Javed Hashmi, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Jehangir Tareen and Shafqat Mehmood.

My Suggetion Pls make Khalifa Zaid Hamid (Panipat wale) caretacker PM. He will take good care of pakistan
Her name was not officially nominated by PPP of PML-N than why IK is crying, just on media reports?? its enough to analysis his approach .........
If PML-N has no problem with Asma being close to PPP, why is IK of all people crying foul about it? He does not have a single seat in Parliament.
Imran is the only sensible leader in Pakistan. He always talks straight and to the point that distinguishes him form other Politicians. He has rightly pointed out that Asma Jahangir is more close to PPP and she should not be considered as a care taker candidate
Join forces with Musharraf and Sheikh Rashid, Khan sahb. Listen to people's advice.
@Umer: Really? The one guy in politics who isn't in power. And has actually given something back to the Pakistani people is not credible...
You my friend personify all that is wrong in Pakistan. Better sing a different tune if you want Pakistan to be saved.
`Every person who is actively concerned about the prosperity of economy of the nation , legitimate right and well being of the common men, equality of opportunity shall have his / her own thoughts and left, right or centrist leanings on governance.Searching a totally neutral thoughts will be a dummy and in effective. The caretaker prime minister should have the track record of honesty in dealings. Since PTI has no seat ( not contested election). his voice does not carry any weight in the process of consenting on caretaker PM.
Moreover the Election commissioner 's office should be strengthen to his/ her absolute say (even over caretaker PM) while conducting the election including the executive machinery.. caretaker government can not take policy decisions, any legislation, declare any popular scheme restricting their rights to favor any political parties and the apprehensions will be mitigated.
in India and major other democracies the ruling party / coalition remains as the care taker government and elections remain fair.
Existence of strong opposition party is very very important to check(beside the in built system to balance) the irregular activities of ruling coalition.
Some shallow minded people cannot understand a fact that Asma is close to PPP and openly criticizes PTI and we should let her become care taker Prime minister?
Just because the so called warrior fights against Pakistan Army, some thinks she is the best option to become care taker PM.
Imran has raised a valid point, people rejecting it obviously LOVE the way country is being ruined by the most useless government EVER.
PML N needs to come our clearly and say no to division of a federating unit.
I am ashamed of PML n for not coming out clearly .
i think Achakzai can be the best choice for caretaker pm.
Asma Jahangeer can never be an impartial person. We do respect her for her upfront views regarding religious bigotry and the work she has done as the chairperson of HRCP. But the slot of Caretaker PM demands restraint, impartiality, all encompassing approach towards every section of society, confidence of all political parties. Asma is too outspoken and brazen in her views and this designation does not require a person who has a knack for alienating religious right and middle class of Pakistan. After all they are also the citizens of Pakistan constitute a major portion of the vote bank
Dear CAD.. Think B+
Imran Khan stop criticizing just give your names for the Caretaker Prime Minister which will show the public the decision level of your leadership. This will compel the Govt and the opposition parties to review and take your party to confidence. This is the democratic way to prove your mettle in the eyes of the public.
Has Imran khan given any name? Why he always criticizes? Imran bhai you are playing on rival ground/pitch and they ll make conditions which suits them! Please get on with it or leave the politics.
Imran is right...Asma apparently appears of PPP.
She can't be accepted. She has been an open critic of PTI, what impartiality do we expect from such a woman? Very sensible choice IK.
Imran is spot on about this. Asma Jahangir has become very controversial and this would only undermine the credibility of elections.
Wake up people .... we are not Animals. We deserve to be kggoverned not ruled. See the obvious... look at Wikileaks. See who delivered SKMT and Namal. Rise above part politics.
PTI deserves a chance to say the least. All other parties have been tried and tested. Hope this nation makes the right call on polling day otherwise there is no else to blame then ourselves !!
Why would you be consulted? You have not a single seat in Parliament and have not contested any election in last five years. Appearing in media does not make anyone leader. Also when elders of the house wanted to decide something important, they send kids to play outside.
PTI is opposing Asma Jahangir , because Hamid Khan (Cousin of Imran) and Asma Jahangir lead different groups of lawyers in Pakistan Bar Council .
Hamid Khan was same person who was lawyer of Malik Riaz for many years . Hamid Khan also fought case for Malik Riaz when his son killed many innocents in a car drag race in Rawalpindi.
Asma jahangir stood up against Musharraf and dictators throughout her life, she stood up for those who died in LAL MASJID . She has long served Pakistan as a lawyer.
Allegations on her by Imran Khan who could not respect a single female in his life . Shame
Why, why do PTI and IK have such bad timing?? Timing is key for political success and they miss every opportunity. PTI should realize, it is not an opposition party in parliamentary sense. It has no seats. Hence it need not be consulted. Qadri muscled his way into a position of consultation without a party or parliamentary representation. Plus Qadri raises the same concerns that IK is throwing tantrums on. If Asma Jahangir is nominated PM, then what would a Tsunami accomplish?? Nothing, if the Govt.decides to block access to Islamabad. A Caretaker PM can also ask the 111 Brigade to protect Islamabad. What will IK do then in that case??? He will be known as a Spoiler that's all. Not a visionary politician, as he and PTI Jiyalas claim..
IK don't like Asma because she is close to PPP. Translation: IK don't like Asma because she is not close to Taliban.
Mr. IK, will you please stop crying foul all the time? It is frustrating
CRYBABY CRIES AGAIN
And too far from my real bosses.
cry baby cries again
Every name should properly be scrutinized before being elected as caretaker PM because these up coming election are extremely vital for the future of the country, and to be honest every body including army, judiciary and even civil society has got some serious concerns about Asma's as being caretaker PM, as Imran Khan has rightly said that she is tilted towards PPP, so how can anyone expect of free and fair elections, if she would be chosen as caretaker PM??
I don't know how close Asma is to PPP but Imran is too close to military to be credible.
If Imran Khan wants to win the next election he should seriously think about forming a powerful coalition with parties led by Dr. Tahir ul Qadri, Musharraf, Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed. This will get all others running wild. Not many other choices. Think beyond yourself.
Good to see ET reporting objectively and not twisting statements.
Imran Khan makes alot of sense. Nomination of Asma will not be acceptable to many parties.
A Cricket Umpire can be neutral but a caretaker Prime Minister cannot, as he or she will be chosen by the leaders of political parties.
She's even more closer to Hussain Haqqani
