KARACHI: The city is likely to get its second public engineering university, as Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah approved the status of Dawood College of Engineering and Technology (DCET) as a university on Friday. However, a bill for the newly-designated university will have to be presented in the Sindh Assembly for legislators’ approval. The summary seeking the change in status for DCET was awaiting the chief minister’s approval since November 2011. Dawood college had been devolved to the provincial government after the passage of the 18th amendment. The NED University of Engineering and Technology is currently the only public engineering university in Karachi.
