PESHAWAR:

The Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) has decided to reduce fees for in-patients who cannot afford diagnostic procedures at the hospital’s expensive cardiology department. LRH Chief Executive Dr Arshad Javed said the decision was taken in the Management Council’s meeting on Wednesday.

Charges for echocardiography will be reduced from Rs450 to Rs250, exercise tolerance test (ETT) from Rs550 to Rs500 and Holter test from Rs600 to Rs400, while the fee of electrocardiogram (ECG) will remain the same at Rs15.

“It was very astonishing – patients who were admitted were also charged by the cardiology department. This department has a handsome budget every year compared to other departments in the hospital,” said Dr Javed.

He added the department has treated a total of 2,230 patients with cardiovascular diseases, out of which 38 were provided free treatment.
