Hamad international: Qatar to open new airport in April

Qatar Airways will move its entire operations to Hamad International Airport in the second half of the year.

DOHA: With preparations well underway, Qatar will on April 1 open the first phase of the new Hamad International Airport to be operated by national carrier Qatar Airways. According to a press release, details of the soft launch were unveiled to an audience of airport officials and airline executives here on Tuesday. Qatar’s Civil Aviation Authority Chairman Abdul Aziz Al Noiami spelled out the plans for the airport’s readiness, in which Qatar Airways will play a pivotal role. The first phase of the $15.5 billion project involves 12 international passenger airlines, including low-cost airlines, becoming the launch carriers of the new facility. Qatar Airways will move its entire operations to Hamad International Airport in the second half of the year. Until recently, the airport was known as New Doha International Airport.
