Fading memories: Death anniversary of comedian Nazar

ISLAMABAD: The 21st death anniversary of Pakistan’s first indigenous comedian Nazar was observed on Sunday. The great comedian debuted in the Punjabi film Gul-Baloch which was released in February 1944. After partition, he acted in Pakistan’s first feature film Teri Yaad. He also gave his audiences masterpieces like Pheray. He won two Nigar Awards, the first in 1960, as the best comedian for his role in Humsafar (1960), and the second in 1982 for thirty years of contribution to cinema.  Some of his best works include Pheray, Judai, Sassi, Baaghi, Noor-e-Islam, Aakhri Nishan and Ajab Khan . Nazar died in 1992, on January 20.
