A cellular phone tower was destroyed when explosives planted by militants in the exchange, a small box installed at the base of the network tower, went off in Lond Khwar area of Mardan on Saturday.
The blast was heard at around 1am in Sadat Baba area, after which the police rushed to the site. “The generator room and exchange were destroyed by the explosion,” said SHO Fazal Subhan of the Lond Khwar police station.
He said the tower’s owner Syed Faiz Rasan Bacha filed a case saying he was sleeping when the blast occurred. Bacha told the police he did not have any personal enmity with anyone. The bomb disposal squad said that three kilogrammes of explosives were used in the blast. The police said they have formed an investigation team.
